Summer is quickly approaching. My school district’s last day of school is June 25. Some students participate in an extended school year summer program, but not all parents choose to send their child to “summer school.” Here are some ideas to get you started on crafting some summer home programs for your students. These activities are typically summertime activities will help to prevent regression in a variety of areas.

Gross Motor Activities for Summer

  • Ride a push bike/trike/pedal bike
  • Go to the park
  • Go to the pool
  • Gross motor games outside like Simon Says and Redlight Greenlight
  • Join summer sports league (with typical or special needs peers)
  • Wash cars


Fine Motor Activities for Summer

  • Homemade Play Dough
  • Gardening
  • Sewing
  • Cooking
  • Having child responsible to open doors/locks with keys
  • Packing snacks for weekend trips in Ziploc bags
  • Card games
  • Squirt guns
  • Sidewalk Chalk
     

Sensory Motor Activities for Summer

  • Go to the beach or make a beach at home by filling a wading pool with sand, beans, or rice
  • Rub child’s body all over with a beach towel
  • Paint pudding on child’s body
  • Hiking with a heavy load
  • Pillow fight
  • Tug of war
  • Mixing cookie dough with hands

Why you should use RSS?
